Additional Notes One of four built by Pullman in Detroit speculatively, using many standard parts. The four were sold to a French Railway, but this order cancelled: then sold to Midland Railway. Packing case sides retained as they formed exterior side panels. Put on to standard MR 6-wheel underframe. Later worked ECML for GNR. Then to Highland Railway, who added bogies ca. 1895. Of these, 'Balmoral' and 'Dunrobin' (q.v.) - the 'Highland Pullmans’ - were W 1907 but may have seen WW1 work. To Brighton 1918 where both bodies (on their underframes) added to a home for the family of Mr Marks, the Superintendent of the Pullman Car Company. When eventually demolished the family retained the interiors which were later preserved by the present owner. The body of 'Balmoral' was saved by Brighton Railway Museum at Brighton Shed. Although demolition of this Shed had started missing parts were salvaged to ensure a good rebuild. Completion planned for 2011 and will demonstrate a very unusual Pullman – short, day/sleeper, fantastic interior woodwork and intricate exterior paintwork! On original underframe, with bogies, buffers and some brake gear from now-scrapped LMS Scenery Van 46/37508 from Foxfield. One end and one third of a side are from "Dunrobin" (qv) - reported as perfect fit: production line Pullman kits! Ongoing steady restoration. 09/16: restoration well under way - see additional photos below.
