Additional Notes 1 of 5 convict carriages built for the Peterhead Harbour of Refuge Works Railway to transport convicts to Stirling Hill Quarry from HM Convict Prison, Peterhead. 01/2000 photo (below) taken at Mill of Crimond, Aberdeenshire (NK040577) prior to move to Peterhead Prison (NK 126445) in 2001 for intended restoration. Restoration project cancelled. However, by 10/12 this carriage body to Maud Station where under tarpaulin cover, with a group considering the feasibility of restoration. To Stanegate Restorations and Replicas at Haltwhistle by 06/15 for restoration. 31/03/16 to Beamish Museum on temporary display until 07/16. 09/16: returned to Maud Railway Museum, former Maud Station, Aberdeenshire where a short length of track has been laid for it (see main and first additional photo). The other 4 carriages have also survived: two as grounded bodies at Keyhead (qv); one in the garden of a private residence at Inveran, Castle Road, Maud (qv); and one (to a slightly different design) as a store shed at Netherton of Logie, nr Crimond, Aberdeenshire (qv). The fate of two other vehicles - an officers' inspection saloon (nicely varnished) and a prison guards' van (similar to the prisoners' vans but with larger windows short cabin and end verandas - is unknown. 10/18: confirmed still in situ.
